Bromophenol Blue Solution is used as a sample loading dye in DNA and protein gel electrophoresis. It is combined with samples prior to gel loading to provide density (from the sucrose component) which sinks samples to the bottom of the well. The migration of samples in the gel is visualised from a migrating blue dye front.
Bromophenol Blue Loading dye also contains sucrose and Xylene cyanol which acts as a secondary marker of sample migration.
